Villa Navalea

Villa Navalea

Site

It is a traditional medieval village with narrow streets, and beautiful landscape with many waters. Just before the spartyla village, it is worth stopping at the big turn and enjoying the unique view. In front of you stretches the eastern middle corfu from dasia and the island of gerekos to the city of corfu and the islet of vido.

Located on the south slopes of pantokrator mountain, corfu, greece

The concept

The layout of the house is on a vertical axis, allowing all spaces to optimal orientation, while maintaining privacy with maximum views to the scenic landscape.

The atriums through the main interior spaces, not only allows better illumination and ventilation, but also emphasises the vertical layout in reference to the terrain levels.

It generates aprecise scale to the imposing context.

The proposal

The program is based on deviding the two houses as autonomous spaces, wrapped in a cohearent architectural design. This way, it allows an independant use of both spaces according to individuals requiremnets, while maintaining privacy.

The “east” section of the design has a more intimate relationship withwith the landscape, as it exaturates to the views and levels of the terrain. The old ruins provide a scenic and romantic architectural void that frames the majestic views.

The “west” section of the house, seeks a more intense relationship with the user, the mountain and the distant views, while providing timeframes for magneficent sunsets and terrain views.

Scenario a

The client envisioned 2 separated villas, as a holiday destination, and a buisness scheme for rentals per seasson.

It must provide 2 independant living units and mainitain the luxurius south facing sea and mountain views.

The project is revealed through the entrance/parking that serves as a patio to the visitor to explore the gaze at the views.

2 separate pathways lead the visitors to the independand living spaces without the feeling of isolation, but rather a feeling of privacy and a unique experience of the terrain.

Scenario b

The clients future plan is to unify the two spaces in one architectural space of a 3 bedroom villa.

For this reason we separated the living spaces to the “upper” level of the plot. Thus maximazing the views and new spaces, such as a new cellar/bar or exhibition space, and a multi-purpose room.

The “lower” level is kept for sleeping areas with all en-suit bedrooms and verandas to the pool.
